Key Programming - Additional Key With One Key Programmed
NOTE:
This procedure is used when a customer needs to have an additional key programmed into system without erasing stored key codes, but does not have 2 programmed keys available. This procedure is also useful when attempting to determine if an ignition key is defective, as a new key can be installed without erasing keys or without having 2 programmed keys available. Before programming, new ignition key must have correct mechanical key cut for vehicle and must be an encoded key. A maximum of 8 keys can be programmed into system. If 8 keys are already programmed, this procedure will not allow any further ignition keys to be programmed without erasing all stored key codes first. The number of keys programmed into the system can be determined using the PID NUMKEYS on Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and radio. See Figure. If NGS tester is used, insert Ford Service Function (FSF) card VERSION 6.0 or higher. Using NEW unprogrammed ignition key, turn ignition switch to RUN position and go to next step.
- Select and perform KEY PROGRAMMING - SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE . This procedure will take 10 minutes to perform. After the security access procedure has been completed, select IGNITION KEY CODE PROGRAM. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect WDS or NGS tester. Ensure vehicle starts using new ignition key.
