Removal And Installation: Column: Notes
CAUTION:
Do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and re-centered. For additional information, refer to appropriate information in

- De-power the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
- Place the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and remove the ignition key.
- Remove the screws and the instrument panel steering column cover.
- Remove the screws and the instrument panel reinforcement.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors at the base of the steering column.
- Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the steering column shaft bolt.
- If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the steering column.
- Remove the nuts.
- Remove the steering column.
- If equipped with an automatic transmission, lower the steering column.
- Remove the nuts.
- Lower the steering column.
- If equipped with an automatic transmission, disconnect the ignition/shifter interlock and remove the steering column.
NOTE:
Secure the steering wheel to prevent rotation.
