Steering Gear: Installation

NOTE: New Teflon(R) seals must be installed any time the lines are disconnected from the steering gear.
  1. Using the special tool, install new seals (388898-S) on the power steering lines.

  2. Install the steering gear through the LH wheel well.
  3. Install the nuts.

  4. Install the bracket and screw.

  5. Connect the power steering lines.

  6. Position the heat shield. Install a new tie strap.
  7. Connect the intermediate steering shaft. Install a new pinch bolt and the dash weather seal.

  8. Position the stabilizer bar and install the four bolts.

  9. Raise the front subframe to the body.
  10. Attach the stabilizer bar links to the struts and install the nuts.

  11. Install two new bolts.

  12. Connect the flex pipe and install the two bolts.

  13. Remove the special tool.

  14. Connect the two heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.

  15. Remove the jack stands.

  16. Connect the tie-rod ends. Install the castellated nuts and new cotter pins.

  17. Fill and leak test the power steering system. Refer to STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  18. Install the front wheel and tire assemblies. Refer to WHEELS & TIRES .
  19. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment. Refer to SUSPENSION SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
