Transmission Range Sensor

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove the shift cable "A", and bracket nut and the control cable front clamp "B". See Fig 1 . Place gearshift lever in Neutral position. Disconnect harness connector from Transmission Range (TR) sensor. Ensure TR sensor is in Neutral position. See Fig 2 . Loosen TR sensor retaining bolts.
  2. Connect ohmmeter between terminals No. 1 and 8 (component side). See Fig 3 . Adjust TR sensor so continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 8. Tighten TR sensor retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Connect TR sensor harness connector to TR sensor. Install the shift cable "A", and bracket nut and the control cable front clamp "B". See Fig 1 . Tighten shift cable bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install air cleaner assembly. Connect negative battery cable. Check for park gear engagement. Start engine and ensure transaxle shifts through all gears properly. If operation is not okay, check shift cable adjustment. See appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Verify vehicle only starts in Park and Neutral, and back-up lights operate.
