Front Brake Pads: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2005 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Do not allow grease, oil, brake fluid or other contaminants to contact the pad lining material. Do not install contaminated pads.
    NOTE: One brake disc pad kit contains the pads required for both sides.
  1. Install the new spring clips and the brake pads.
  2. NOTE: Use a suitable tool to protect pistons and boots when pushing the caliper pistons into the bores.
  3. Compress the disc brake caliper pistons into the caliper piston bores.
  4. CAUTION: Tighten the bottom locator pin brake caliper bolt before tightening the top guide pin brake caliper bolt.
  5. Position the brake caliper and install the 2 bolts.
    • Tighten to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft).
  6. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with clean brake fluid.
  7. Test the brakes for normal operation.
