Recommended Procedure

Visually inspect exhaust system for damage. Repair exhaust system as necessary. Start engine. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn A/C off. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Using scan tool, access EBP PID from PID/DATA monitor menu. See ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 7.3L DIESEL article. Observe EBP PID reading and briefly run engine at wide open throttle. If EBP PID reading is 34 psi (234 kPa) or less, exhaust system is okay. If EBP PID reading is more than 34 psi (234 kPa), exhaust is restricted. Check for collapsed or plugged tailpipe, or plugged or damaged muffler. Repair as necessary.
