Recommended Procedure
- Connect a hose to fuel drain line at bottom of fuel filter housing. Place other end of hose into a suitable container. Open fuel drain. Turn ignition on. Fuel pump should operate for about 20 seconds. Observe fuel flow into container. Fuel flow out of drain should be a steady stream. Insufficient flow could indicate fuel supply or fuel system problems. Turn ignition off when container is half full.
- Observe WATER IN FUEL indicator. If indicator is illuminated, fuel is probably contaminated with water. Service fuel system as necessary. Inspect fuel in container. It should be clear, not cloudy. It also should be free of water and contaminants. If engine oil is present in fuel, injector "O" ring(s) may be defective. Perform TEST 9C: MONITOR ICP PID WHILE CRANKING under HARD START/NO-START DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES. Repair oil leaks as necessary.
- Some sediment and water may be present in fuel sample if fuel filter has not been serviced for a prolonged period of time. A second sample may be necessary to determine fuel quality.
