Steering Wheel Rotation Sensor: Removal
- Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
- Remove the two multifunction switches.
- Press the retaining tangs.
- Lift the switches upwards.
- Remove the driver air bag module bolts.
- Remove the driver air bag module.
- Release the three clips.
- Disconnect the module electrical connector.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Disconnect the speed control electrical connector (if equipped).
- Remove the steering wheel retaining bolt.
- Remove the tolerance ring.
- Remove the air bag sliding contact.
- Using a thin bladed screwdriver, release the two clips.
- Fully extend the steering column.
- Release the locking lever.
- Fully extend the steering column.
- Mark the two halves of the steering column.
- Remove the alien bolt.
- Separate the steering column into two halves.
- Remove the steering wheel rotation sensor clamp.
- Remove the screws.
- Using a thin bladed screwdriver, press the locking tangs and remove the steering wheel rotation sensor clamp.
- Remove the steering wheel rotation sensor screws.
- Remove the steering wheel rotation sensor.
NOTE:
Make sure the air bag sliding contact is not allowed to rotate. Secure the contact in the central position with a piece of suitable tape.
NOTE:
The steering column two halves must be marked before separating.
