Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. Remove gasket residue with sealer remover and a spatula.
    • Thoroughly clean the threaded holes of the cylinder head bolts.
  2. Check the cylinder head deformation. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  3. Make up two locating studs as shown.

  4. NOTE: Install a new cylinder head gasket.
  5. Install the cylinder head gasket.
    1. Position the cylinder head gasket.
    2. Insert the fabricated locating studs.
    3. Check that the locating studs are seated correctly.

  6. Install the cylinder head.
  7. CAUTION: Do not retighten the cylinder head bolts.
  8. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in three stages in the sequence indicated.
    • Stage 1: 20 Nm.
    • Stage 2: 40 Nm.
    • Stage 3: 90 degrees.

  9. NOTE: Coat the valve tappets with clean engine oil before installation.
  10. Install the valve tappets.
  11. Install the camshafts.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Attach the power steering pump bracket to the cylinder head and cylinder block.

  14. Install the generator bracket bolt.

  15. Connect the wiring harness to the electronic ignition (EI) coil and to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.

  16. Attach the generator.

  17. Attach the power steering pipe bracket to the cylinder head.

  18. NOTE: Install a new thermostat housing gasket.

  19. Attach the thermostat housing.
  20. Attach the fuel lines.

  21. Connect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor connector.

  22. Connect the fuel injector wiring harness electrical connectors.

  23. Attach the accelerator cable and the speed control cable (if equipped) to the throttle body.

  24. Attach the vacuum hoses to the intake manifold.

  25. Attach the brake booster pipe to the intake manifold.

  26. Install the exhaust manifold. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD .
  27. Install the intake manifold lower retaining bolt.

  28. Connect the oil pressure switch electrical connector.

  29. NOTE: Install a new oil filter.
  30. Drain the engine oil.
  31. Lower the vehicle.
  32. Install the air cleaner. .
  33. Fill the engine with engine oil
  34. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
