Selector Lever Cable: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & HOISTING .
  2. CAUTION: Excessive bending of the flexible exhaust pipe may cause damage resulting in failure. Support the flexible exhaust pipe with a support wrap or suitable splint.

  3. Support the flexible exhaust pipe, using a suitable wrap.
  4. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe and detach the support insulators.
    • Discard the gasket.

  5. Unclip the selector lever cable from the right-hand side of the bracket.

  6. Remove the wiring harness cover.

  7. Remove the exhaust heat shield.
    • Unclip the selector lever cable.

  8. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever assembly.
    1. Open the adjuster assembly by turning the selector lever cable outer sleeve.
    2. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the transmission range (TR) sensor bracket.
    3. Remove the selector lever cable from the bracket.

  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  11. Remove the selector lever cable from the selector lever.
    1. Shift the selector lever to "P".
    2. Unclip the selector lever cable.
    3. Unclip the selector lever cable outer sleeve.

  12. Remove the footwell heater channel.

  13. Remove the center console lower trim panels (left-hand side shown).
    • Remove the screws.
    • Release the clip.

  14. Remove the heater housing cover (right-hand side shown).
    • Unclip the four clips.
    • Remove the two screws.

  15. Detach the floor covering and the insulator material and position it to one side (heat exchanger shown removed).

  16. Attach a suitable length of draw cord to the transaxle end of the selector lever cable and secure it to the transaxle.
  17. Remove the selector lever cable grommet.

  18. Remove the selector lever cable.
    • Pull the cable and draw cord through the floor panel.
