Removal And Installation: Column: Removal

    All Vehicles 

    NOTE: Make sure the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. WARNING: To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes and instructions in the deactivation procedure.
  3. Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
  4. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes and instructions in the clockspring removal and installation procedure.
  5. Remove the clockspring. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  6. Remove the reinforcement.
    1. Remove the screws and the data link connector.
    2. Remove the bolts and the reinforcement.

  7. Remove the screws.

  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the multi-function switch.

  9. Position the wiring aside.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    2. Pull the wiring harness routing pin out of the steering column.

  10. Pull the wiring harness routing pin out of the steering column.

  11. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.

  12. Remove the bolt.

  13. Remove the four nuts and lower the steering column.

  14. Vehicles With Column Shift 

  15. Disconnect the brake shift interlock electrical connector.

  16. Disconnect the shift cable and remove the steering column.

  17. Vehicles With Console Shift 

  18. Disconnect the shift interlock actuator and remove the steering column.
