Inspection and Verification: Notes

  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Damaged exterior mirrors
    • Damaged interior rear view mirror
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse:
      • 104(40A)
    • Central junction box (CJB) fuse:
      • 3(5A)
      • 16(10A)
      • 14(10A)
      • 22(0A)
    • Exterior rear view mirror control switch
    • Memory set switch
    • Exterior rear view mirror motor
    • Exterior rear view mirror glass
    • Interior rear view mirror
    • Driver seat module (DSM)
    • Rear electronics module (REM)
    • Wiring harness
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections, to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual .
  6. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for rear electronics module, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULE .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for driver seat module, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULE .
    • SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the rear electronics module or the driver seat module.
  7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the REAR ELECTRONICS MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  or the DRIVER SEAT MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  to continue diagnostics.
  8. If DTCs are retrieved that are not found in the following driver seat module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index or the rear electronics module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index, refer to the master DRIVER SEAT MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  or the REAR ELECTRONICS MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULE .
  9. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the SYMPTOM CHART  to continue diagnostics.
