Front Seat Backrest: Assembly

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, and notes at the beginning of the disassembly procedure.

All Vehicles 

  1. Install the trim cover on the pad.
  2. Install the springs.

    Vehicles with side air bags 

  3. WARNING: Inspect the mounting surfaces of the side air bag module and the seat backrest frame mounting bracket for any foreign objects before installing the side air bag module. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
    WARNING: Inspect the side air bag cavity in the seat backrest pad for any foreign objects. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
    WARNING: Before installing the side air bag module, check it for damage and foreign objects. If the air bag module is damaged, replace it. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.

  4. Install the side air bag module and the screws.
  5. Route the side air bag module wiring as noted during removal. Install the pin-type retainer.

    All Vehicles 

  6. Install the headrest guide rod sleeve.
  7. Install the seat trim.
  8. Install the screws.

  9. Install the screw covers.

  10. Install the headrest.

  11. Install the armrest stud and guide pin.

  12. Install the armrest.

  13. Install the Front Seat Backrest. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT BACKREST  .

    Vehicles without side air bags 

  14. Install the affected seat. For additional information, DRIVER SEAT  or PASSENGER SEAT  .
    • Check active restraint system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to SAFETY BELT SYSTEM .

    Vehicles with side air bags 

  15. Restore the vehicle to operating condition
      WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes, and instructions in the seat removal and installation procedure.
    1. Install the affected seat. For additional information, refer to DRIVER SEAT  or PASSENGER SEAT  .
    2. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes, and instructions in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation/reactivation procedure.
    3. Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION  .
    4. WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from the vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
    5. With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION  .
    6. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to SAFETY BELT SYSTEM .
