In-Vehicle Repair: Camshaft: Removal
- Remove the timing belt, valve cover (6582) and the camshaft sprocket (6256). For additional information, refer to TIMING DRIVE COMPONENTS - TIMING SPROCKETS .
- Remove the bolts.
- Rotate the flange 90 degrees prior to removing the exhaust camshaft (6250).
- Remove the camshaft journal caps.
- Loosen the bolts in several two-turn passes in the sequence shown in Fig 3.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the caps.
- Remove the camshafts.
- Remove the oil control solenoid and bushing.
- Inspect the camshafts for wear. For additional information, refer to CAMSHAFT SURFACE INSPECTION .
CAUTION:
Cylinder head camshaft journal caps and cylinder heads are numbered to be sure they are assembled in their original positions. Keep camshaft journal caps with the cylinder head from which they were removed. Do not mix with camshaft journal caps from another cylinder head.
