Cylinder Head: Removal

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
  2. Remove the camshafts. For additional information, refer to CAMSHAFT .
  3. Remove the thermostat housing. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  5. Disconnect the fuel line. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  6. Remove the power steering pump and bracket assembly. For additional information, refer to PUMP--ZETEC and PUMP -- 2.0L .
  7. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR .
  8. Remove the oil level indicator and tube. For additional information, refer to OIL LEVEL INDICATOR AND TUBE .
  9. Disconnect the vacuum hoses.

  10. Disconnect the speed control and the accelerator control cables.

  11. Disconnect the main engine electrical connectors.

  12. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

  13. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & HOISTING .
  14. Remove the bolts and the splash shield.

  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Remove the bolts and the cylinder head.
    • Discard the gasket.
