Oil Pan: Installation
- Clean and inspect the mounting faces of both the oil pan and the cylinder block. To remove all traces of previous sealer, use solvent to clean the cylinder block and oil pump. Both surfaces must be flat, clean and dry.
- Apply a 3 mm (0.1 inch) continuous bead of silicone gasket and sealant to the oil pan.
- Install the oil pan. Tighten the bolts from the middle out as shown in Fig 1.
- Install the catalytic convertor. For additional information, refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the oil pan drain plug (6730).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
CAUTION:
Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material; use only manual scrapers. Do not scratch or gouge the aluminum sealing surfaces.
NOTE:
Install the oil pan within four minutes after the sealant has been applied.
