Valve Cover: Removal

  1. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose (6853) from the fitting on the valve cover (6582).

  2. Disconnect the wiring connector at the oil control solenoid.

  3. On early production vehicles, remove the bolts and the appearance cover.

  4. Position the accelerator cable (9A758) and speed control cable out of the way.
  5. Remove the ignition wire and brackets (12280) from the spark plugs (12405).

  6. Remove the bolt, the nut and the front support isolator damper.

  7. Remove the bolts and the upper timing belt cover.

  8. Remove the valve cover.
    • Remove the ten bolts.
    • Remove the valve cover and valve cover gasket (6584).

  9. Inspect the valve cover for damage. Install a new valve cover if necessary.
