Cable - Ignition/Shifter Interlock: Removal

  1. Remove the transmission control selector dial bezel; refer to BEZEL - TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECTOR DIAL .
  2. CAUTION: Do not loosen the ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut from the factory setting for proper shift-lock operation to avoid misadjustment.
    CAUTION: Be careful not to kink the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719) when repositioning it aside to avoid cable binding.

  3. Hold the (A) ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut to prevent it from turning while loosening the (B) ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut and position the cable aside.
  4. Remove the three steering column shroud screws and the steering column shroud (3530).
  5. Position the hood latch control handle and cable (16916) aside.
    1. Loosen the nut.
    2. Remove the hood latch control handle and cable and position aside.

  6. Remove the screw and release the instrument panel steering column cover (04459).

  7. Disconnect the light switch rheostat resistor electrical connector and remove the instrument panel steering column cover.

  8. Remove the screws and the upper and lower steering column shrouds.

  9. Remove the (A) bolt and the (B) ignition/shifter interlock cable.
