Inspection And Verification
WARNING:
To avoid the possibility of personal injury or damage to the vehicle, do not operate the engine with the hood open until the fan blade has been examined for possible cracks and separation.

Specifications show the expected minimum or maximum condition. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS

NOTE:
If a component fails to meet the specifications, it is necessary to install a new component or refinish. If the component can be refinished, wear limits are provided as an aid to making a decision. A new component must be installed for any component that fails to meet specifications and cannot be refinished.
- Verify the customer concern by operating the engine to duplicate the condition.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical damage. Refer to the following chart.Visual Inspection Chart
Mechanical - Engine coolant leaks
- Engine oil leaks
- Fuel leaks
- Damaged or severely worn parts
- Loose mounting bolts, studs and nuts
- If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily identified, repair as necessary.
- If the concerns remain after the inspection, determine the symptoms. Refer to SYMPTOM CHART for the procedure.
