Timing Drive Components - Timing Sprockets: Removal

  1. Remove the timing belt. For additional information, refer to TIMING DRIVE COMPONENTS - TIMING BELT .
  2. WARNING: The camshaft alignment tool is not recommended to hold the camshafts in place when removing or tightening the bolts. Damage to camshaft ears may result.
    NOTE: Use open-end wrench to keep the camshaft from rotating.

  3. Remove the bolt and the intake camshaft timing sprocket.
  4. NOTE: Use an open-end wrench to keep the camshaft from rotating.
  5. Remove the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
    • Remove VCT oil plug.
    • Remove the bolt.
    • Remove the sprocket.
