Engine - Manual Transaxle

Special Tool(s)

  1. Remove the hood. For additional information, refer to HOOD ALIGNMENT .
  2. WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  4. Remove the battery (10653). For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the battery tray (10732). For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the throttle return spring (9B569).
  7. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  8. Remove the constant control relay module and bracket as an assembly.

  9. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to DRAINING .
  10. Remove the radiator coolant recovery reservoir (8A080). For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  11. Recover the A/C system refrigerant. For additional information, refer to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY .
  12. Remove the air cleaner inlet duct at throttle body.
  13. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring (9D930) from the connectors.

  14. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (8260).

  15. Disconnect the heater water hoses (18472).

  16. Disconnect the fuel line.
  17. Remove the radiator. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  18. Disconnect the three vacuum lines.

  19. Disconnect the accelerator cable (9A758) and the speed control actuator cable (9A825).

  20. Disconnect the accelerator cable, the speed control actuator cable and the brackets.

  21. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) (9F472). For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  22. Disconnect the power steering return hose and bracket. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  23. Disconnect the A/C compressor to condenser discharge line (19972). For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  24. Remove the line block from the compressor.
  25. Remove the catalytic converter. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  26. Disconnect the transaxle control rod and support.
  27. Remove the front roll restrictor.

  28. Remove the nuts.

  29. Remove the halfshafts. For additional information, refer to AXLE SHAFTS .
  30. Lower the vehicle.
  31. Disconnect the wiring harness guide from the engine and transaxle mount.

  32. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (9E731).

  33. Disconnect the generator wiring harness. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS .
  34. Disconnect the hydraulic clutch line.

  35. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring.
    • Remove the bolts.
    • Disconnect the harness.

  36. Remove the power steering line bracket.
  37. Support the engine with a floor crane.
  38. Remove the nuts and bolts.

  39. Remove the bolt.

  40. Remove the engine and transaxle as an assembly.
  41. Remove the ten bolts.

  42. Remove the bolts.

  43. Remove the clutch. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  44. Remove rear cover plate and dowels.
  45. Mount the engine on a suitable engine stand.
  46. Remove lifting equipment.
