Removal and Installation

NOTE: Make sure the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.

Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .

WARNING: To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions and notes in the deactivation procedure.

Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, follow all warnings, cautions, notes and instructions in the clockspring removal and installation procedure.

Remove the clockspring. For additional information, refer to CLOCKSPRING .
Remove the multi-function switch.
1. Remove the screws.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
3. Remove the multi-function switch.

Remove the ignition switch electrical connector.
1. Remove the retaining screw.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector and position out of the way.

Remove the transmission range indicator cable from the steering column actuator housing.
1. Remove the retaining screw.
2. Disconnect the cable loop from the shift tube hook and position cable out of the way.

Remove and discard the steering column shaft pinch bolt and disconnect the coupler.

Disconnect the transmission shift cable.
1. Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2. Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column lower mounting bracket by pushing the tab on the cable in and sliding the cable off the bracket.

While supporting the steering column, remove and discard the four retaining nuts and remove the steering column.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
