Removal and Installation

- Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
- Remove the clockspring. For additional information, refer to CLOCKSPRING .
- Remove the multi-function switch.
- Remove the screws.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the multi-function switch.
- Remove the ignition switch electrical connector.
- Remove the retaining screw.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and position out of the way.
- Remove the transmission range indicator cable from the steering column actuator housing.
- Remove the retaining screw.
- Disconnect the cable loop from the shift tube hook and position cable out of the way.
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft pinch bolt and disconnect the coupler.
- Disconnect the transmission shift cable.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column lower mounting bracket by pushing the tab on the cable in and sliding the cable off the bracket.
- While supporting the steering column, remove and discard the four retaining nuts and remove the steering column.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
NOTE:
Make sure the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
