Test C: System Overcharges

  1. Check For Voltage Drop In "A" Circuit (Red Wire)

    Turn the ignition off. Disconnect generator 3-pin connector. Measure the voltage drop between the generator connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire) and the positive battery terminal. See Figure . Is the voltage drop less than 0.5 volt? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair high resistance in "A" circuit (Red wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Test the system for normal operation.
  2. Check Generator & Battery Ground Connections

    Check the ground connections between the generator and the engine, and the battery and the engine. Are all ground connections clean and tight? If yes, install a new generator. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test the system for normal operation. If no, repair ground connections as necessary. Test the system for normal operation.
