Inspection And Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the tilt/telescope switch to duplicate the condition.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Refer to the following chart:
    VISUAL INSPECTION

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Steering column
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 19 (15A
    • Tilt/telescope switch
    • Circuitry
    • Electrical connectors
  3. If inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as required.
  4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . If the diagnostic tool data link test is passed for the instrument cluster module (ICM), retrieve the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  5. If diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go to the INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE (ICM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  to continue diagnostics.
  6. If the self-test is passed and no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART  to continue diagnostics.
  7. If the ICM cannot be accessed by the diagnostic tool, refer to the . Refer to INFORMATION, GAUGES & WARNING DEVICES .
