Steering Column: Assembly

    Vehicles with telescoping column 

    NOTE: Make sure the steering column shafts are aligned correctly.

  1. Connect the two halves of the steering column.
    2. WARNING: Make sure the breakaway capsules are located in the holes in the bracket. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    WARNING: Make sure the bolt is not over tightened. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

  2. Install the steering column sliding bolt.
    1. Align the breakaway capsules.
    2. Tighten the steering column sliding bolt.

    3. All vehicles 

  3. Install the ignition lock cylinder.
    • Rotate the ignition key.

  4. Install the ignition switch.

  5. Install the PATS transceiver.

  6. Install the clockspring.
    • Make sure both the retaining tabs lock into position on the steering column.

    7. CAUTION: Make sure the spacing collar is correctly located. Do not assemble if the spacing collar is missing.

  7. Install the spacing collar.
  8. Install the steering column LH and RH multifunction switches.

  9. Remove the tape from the clockspring.
  10. Install the steering wheel.
    1. Connect the speed control electrical connector (if equipped).
    2. Install the bolt.

  11. Install the driver air bag module.
    • Connect the electrical connector.

  12. Install the driver air bag module screws.
