Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Remove the windshield wiper motor and wiper pivot arm. For additional information, refer to WIPERS AND WASHERS .
  4. CAUTION: Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal. Mark the spark plug wire locations before removing them.
  5. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
  6. Detach the spark plug wire retainers.
  7. CAUTION: It is important to twist the spark plug wire boots while pulling along the axis of the spark plug to avoid possible damage to the spark plug wires.
  8. Using the special tool, remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug using a twisting motion.

    CAUTION: Make sure the spark plug boots are positioned so the spark plug wires do not contact the exhaust manifold.
    NOTE: Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the spark plug wire boots before attaching to the spark plugs.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
