Engine Front Cover: Removal

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
    CAUTION: The cooling system filling and bleeding procedure must be followed exactly or damage to the engine can occur.
  1. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - LH  in this article.
  5. Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - RH  in this article.
  6. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
  8. Remove the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to LOWER END COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW, CRANKSHAFT PULLEY AND CRANKSHAFT FRONT OIL SEAL  and CRANKSHAFT FRONT SEAL  in this article.
  9. Remove the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .
  10. Remove the lower radiator hose bracket nut.

  11. Disconnect the lower radiator, upper radiator and heater hose.

  12. Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses, if equipped.

  13. Remove the stud bolt.

  14. NOTE: One bolt is blocked by the power steering pressure hose and must be removed with the power steering pump.
  15. Remove the 4 bolts and position the power steering pump aside.
  16. Remove the coolant pump pulley bolts and the pulley.

  17. Remove the 5 bolts and the power steering pump bracket.
  18. Detach the wiring harness clips.

  19. Remove the engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown.
