Disassembly and Assembly

CAUTION: If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in the same positions. Mark the components removed for location.
    CAUTION: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
  1. Remove the spark plugs.
    • To install, tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).

  2. Using the special tool, compress the valve springs.

  3. Remove the following:
    1. Valve spring retainer key
    2. Valve spring retainers
    3. Valve springs
    4. Valve stem seal/seats
    5. Intake valves
    6. Exhaust valves

  4. Inspect the components, if necessary. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  5. CAUTION: Lubricate the parts with clean engine oil before installing.
  6. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
