Oil Cooler: Removal

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  3. Disconnect the 2 quick disconnect oil cooler coolant tubes.

  4. Remove the oil filter and discard.
  5. Remove the oil cooler mounting bolt.

  6. CAUTION: If metal or aluminum foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose mechanical concerns, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  7. Remove and inspect the oil cooler and tube assembly.
