Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Remove the cowl panel grille. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  4. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.

  5. Remove the bolts and the cowl lower panel.
    • To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

  6. CAUTION: Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal.
  7. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
  8. Detach the spark plug wire retainers.
  9. CAUTION: It is important to twist the spark plug wire boots, while pulling along the axis of the spark plug, to avoid possible damage to the spark plug wires.

  10. Using the special tool, remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug using a twisting motion.
  11. CAUTION: Make sure the spark plug boots are positioned so the spark plug wires do not contact the exhaust manifold.
    NOTE: Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the spark plug wire boots before attaching to the spark plugs.
  12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
