Spark Plugs: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Remove the cowl panel grille. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  4. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.

  5. Remove the bolts and the cowl lower panel.

  6. CAUTION: It is important to twist the spark plug wire boots, while pulling along the axis of the spark plug, to avoid possible damage to the spark plug wires.

  7. With a twisting motion, use the special tool to pull the 6 spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  8. Use compressed air to remove any foreign material in the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs.
  9. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
  10. Remove the 6 spark plugs.
