Main Control and Pump: Removal
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Loosen the clamps and remove the air cleaner tube.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING .
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the transaxle electrical connector.
- Disconnect the speed control electrical connector.
- Remove the wiper arm and pivot assembly. For additional information, refer to WIPERS AND WASHERS .
- Remove the passenger compartment air intake box.
- Remove the air intake tube.
- Remove the front upper radiator shield.
- Remove the hood latch and position aside.
- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Install the special tool (front of engine compartment).
- Install the special tool (rear of engine compartment).
- Install the special tools.
- Remove the upper main control cover bolts.
- Remove the rear transaxle support insulator bolt, nut and support insulator.
- Remove the rear transaxle support insulator bracket.
- Remove the remaining bolts and the main control cover.
- Lift the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Position the transaxle wiring harness aside.
- Remove the bolts. Note the size and location of the bolts.
- Disconnect the manual linkage.
- Remove the main pump assembly and the main control valve body by carefully sliding it off the pump shaft.
NOTE:
When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive shift strategy.
CAUTION:
Do not pull on the wires or the electrical connectors. Damage to the connectors will result.
CAUTION:
Do not remove the 2 bolts that hold the pump assembly and main control valve body together as the pump assembly may fall from the main control valve body and become damaged.
CAUTION:
Only 4 of the 6 bolts need to be removed.
