Standard ABS

The standard ABS consists of the following components:

The standard ABS prevents wheel lock-up by monitoring the wheel speed sensors and actuating the valves in the HCU which modulates the brake pressure to the brake calipers. By preventing the wheels from locking up, the driver is able to maintain steering control and stop in the shortest possible distance under most conditions.

The front wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the front hub and bearing assemblies. Refer to FRONT SUSPENSION - REAR WHEEL DRIVE (RWD) article for rear wheel drive (RWD) vehicles or FRONT SUSPENSION - FOUR WHEEL DRIVE (4WD) article for four wheel drive (4WD) vehicles.

The rear wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the rear half shafts. Refer to REAR DRIVE HALFSHAFTS article.
