Engine Front Cover: Removal
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove the engine cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
- Remove the cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
- Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover - RH .
- Remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover - LH .
- Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the nut and the power steering pressure hose support bracket.
- Remove the nut and the battery wiring harness and transmission cooler tube support brackets.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and washer.
- Discard the crankshaft pulley bolt.
- Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley.
- Using the special tool, remove and discard the crankshaft front seal.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the 3 accessory drive idler pulleys.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Disconnect the RH camshaft position (CMP) sensor wiring harness retainer from the cylinder head.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt and the RH CMP sensor.
- Disconnect the radio ignition interference capacitor electrical connectors.
- Remove the nut and the RH radio ignition interference capacitor.
- Remove the nut and the LH radio ignition interference capacitor.
- Remove the bolt and the LH CMP sensor.
- Discard the O-ring seal.
- Disconnect the wiring harness position retainer from the power steering pump stud bolt.
- Disconnect the wiring harness position retainer and the engine oil pressure (EOP) switch electrical connector and position the wiring harness aside.
- Remove the 2 bolts, the stud bolt and position the power steering pump assembly aside.
- Remove the 4 front oil pan bolts.
- Remove the bolts and the studs.
- Remove the engine front cover from the front cover to cylinder block dowel.
- Remove the bolt and the CKP sensor.
- Discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove and discard the engine front cover gaskets.
- Clean the mating surfaces with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Inspect the mating surfaces.
NOTE:
LH shown, RH similar.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
