Engine Front Cover: Installation
- Clean and inspect the mounting surfaces of the engine and the front cover.
- Apply a 2.5 mm (0.10 in) bead of silicone gasket and sealant to the cylinder head and oil pan joint areas. Apply a 2.5 mm (0.10 in) bead of silicone gasket and sealant to the front cover.
- Install the engine front cover. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown, to the following specifications:
- Tighten the 8-mm bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Tighten the 13-mm bolts to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Install the coolant pump pulley and the 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Using the special tool, install the crankshaft front oil seal.
- Install the engine mount. For additional information, refer to Engine Mount .
- Install the crankshaft pulley. For additional information, refer to Crankshaft Pulley .
- Install a standard 6 mm (0.23 in) x 18 mm (0.7 in) bolt through the crankshaft pulley and thread it into the front cover.
- Install the CKP sensor and the 2 bolts.
- Do not tighten the bolts at this time.
- Adjust the new CKP sensor with the alignment jig.
- Tighten the 2 bolts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
- Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
- Attach the 2 wiring harness retainers to the engine front cover.
- Remove the 6 mm (0.23 in) x 18 mm (0.7 in) bolt.
- Position the power steering pump and install the bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Using the special tool, install a new Teflon® O-ring seal to the PSP tube.
- Install the PSP tube onto the power steering pump.
- Tighten to 65 Nm (48 lb-ft).
- Install the PSP tube bracket nut.
- Tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
- Using the special tool, install the power steering pump pulley.
- Connect the PSP switch electrical connector.
- If equipped, attach the 2 wiring harness retainers to the power steering reservoir.
- Install the accessory drive belt and idler pulleys. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE article.
- Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive disks or other abrasive means to clean sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
NOTE:
The engine front cover must be installed and the bolts tightened within 4 minutes of applying the silicone gasket and sealant.
NOTE:
Remove the through-bolt from the special tool.
NOTE:
Lubricate the oil seal with clean engine oil.
CAUTION:
Only hand-tighten the bolt or damage to the front cover can occur.
