Valve Cover: Removal

CAUTION:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
- Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
- Lift up the connector boot and disconnect the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connectors.
- Remove the 4 ignition coil-to-valve cover bolts and the ignition coils.
- Disconnect the breather tube from the valve cover.
- Disconnect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor and the fuel injector electrical connectors. Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the radio interference capacitor bracket bolt and position the bracket aside.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.
- Detach all of the wiring harness retainers from the valve cover studs and position the harness aside.
- Remove the 14 valve cover retainers, the valve cover and gasket.
- Discard the valve cover gasket.
