Fuel System Pressure Release: Release
- Remove the fuel pump relay.
- Start the engine and allow to idle until the engine stalls.
- After the engine stalls, crank the engine for approximately 5 seconds to make sure the fuel injection supply manifold pressure has been released.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- When the fuel system service is complete, install the fuel pump relay.
- Cycle the ignition key and wait 3 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks before starting the engine.
- Start the engine and check the fuel system for leaks.

Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING:
The fuel system remains pressurized for a long time after the ignition is switched off. The fuel pressure must be released before attempting any repairs. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

Do not carry personal electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or audio equipment of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
NOTE:
The fuel pump relay is located in the engine compartment, in the battery junction box, relay C1051.
NOTE:
It may take more than one key cycle to pressurize the fuel system.
