Spark Plugs: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  3. Remove the cowl panel grille. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS article.
  4. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.

  6. Remove the bolts and the cowl lower panel.

    CAUTION: It is important to twist the spark plug wire boots, while pulling along the axis of the spark plug, to avoid possible damage to the spark plug wires.
  8. With a twisting motion, use the special tool to pull the 6 spark plug wires from the spark plugs.

  10. Use compressed air to remove any foreign material in the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs.
  11. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
  12. Remove the 6 spark plugs.
