Main Control and Pump: Installation

  1. Install the pump assembly and main control valve body onto the pump shaft.

  3. Rotate the pump assembly and main control valve body to connect the manual valve link with the manual valve.
  4. CAUTION: Do not use the bolts to draw pump assembly and main control valve body onto the chain cover case. Component damage may occur.
  5. Install the pump assembly and main control valve body. Using the special tools, loosely install the bolts.

  7. Remove the special tools and install the 2 bolts in their place. Tighten all the bolts in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).

  9. Install the transaxle wire harness and retaining clip into the separator plate.
  10. Connect the electrical connectors.

    NOTE: The transaxle side cover gasket is reusable if not torn or ripped.
  12. Remove the gasket. Clean and inspect the gasket, reinstall into the pan.

  14. Install the side cover, gasket and the M6 x 1.00 bolts.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

  16. Install the M8 x 1.25 bolts.
    • Tighten to 29 Nm (21 lb-ft).

  18. Install the rear transaxle support insulator bracket.
    • Tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft).

  20. Position the transaxle support insulator in place and loosely install the bolt and nut.

  22. Tighten the retaining bolt and nut.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

  24. Remove the special tools.

  26. Remove the special tool (rear of engine compartment).

  28. Remove the special tool (front of engine compartment).

  30. Install the oil filler cap.

  32. Install the hood latch.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

  34. Install the passenger compartment air intake box.

  36. Install the air intake tube.

  38. Install the front upper radiator shield.

  40. Connect the electrical connectors.
    1. Connect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector.
    2. Connect the transaxle electrical connector.
    3. Connect the speed control electrical connector.

  42. Install the wiper arm and pivot assembly. For additional information, refer to WIPERS AND WASHERS article.
  43. Install the air cleaner assembly. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.

  45. Install the air cleaner tube and tighten the clamps.

    NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive shift strategy.
  47. Install the battery tray. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  48. Fill the transaxle assembly with one quart of clean automatic transmission fluid.
  49. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level. For additional information, refer to Fluid Level and Condition Check under Preliminary Inspection .
