Upper Intake Manifold: Removal
CAUTION:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
- Remove the 2 pin-type retainers and the accelerator control splash shield.
- Disconnect the accelerator cable, speed control cable and throttle return spring from the throttle body.
- Remove the 2 accelerator cable bracket bolts and position the accelerator cables and bracket aside.
- Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor and the intake air control (IAC) electrical connectors.
- Detach the harness retainer from the throttle body stud bolt.
- Disconnect the evaporative emissions (EVAP) return tube from the upper intake manifold.
- Remove the upper intake manifold support bracket bolt and nuts.
- Position the bracket and harness aside.
- Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube from the EGR valve.
- Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube from the upper intake manifold.
- Disconnect the PCV tube from the PCV valve and remove the tube.
- Disconnect the vacuum tube from the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor and the EGR vacuum regulator.
- Disconnect the EGR vacuum regulator and intake manifold runner control (IMRC) electrical connectors.
- Remove the 2 nuts and the EGR vacuum regulator.
- Detach the spark plug wire retainer from the valve cover stud.
- Remove the 3 stud bolts, the bolt and the upper intake manifold.
