Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Sable and 2005 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

All vehicles 

  1. Park the wiper pivot arms in the highest position on the glass.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Remove the three (two shown) RH cowl panel clips and remove the RH cowl panel.

  4. Remove the clip on the water shield.

  5. Remove the three (two shown) RH water shield screws and remove the RH water shield.

    Vehicles with 3.0L 2V engine 

  6. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve return tube at the intake manifold and position aside.

    All vehicles 

  7. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector and remove the gasket.

  8. Remove the retaining bolts and the PCM.

  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
