Pinpoint Test B: High Engine Idle Speed

- B1 CHECK CABLE CONDITION
- Disconnect the accelerator cable from the cam at the throttle body.
- Make sure the disconnected end of the accelerator cable does not come in contact with any of the surrounding parts.
- Is the cable core wire kinked, frayed or damaged?
- Yes : INSTALL a new accelerator cable. REFER to ACCELERATOR CABLE - 3.0L (2V) or REFER to ACCELERATOR CABLE - 3.0L (4V) .
- No : GO to B2.
- B2 RESTRICTED CABLE MOVEMENT
- With the cable disconnected from the cam at the throttle body, pull the core wire through its entire travel from the pedal end and then from the throttle end.
- Is the cable movement rough, sticky or restricted?
- Yes : INSTALL a new accelerator cable. REFER to ACCELERATOR CABLE - 3.0L (2V) or REFER to ACCELERATOR CABLE - 3.0L (4V) .
- No : GO to B3.
- B3 RESTRICTED THROTTLE BODY LEVER MOVEMENT
- Disconnect the speed control actuator cable from the throttle body lever.
- Cycle the throttle body lever through its entire range of movement.
- Is the throttle body lever movement rough, sticky or restricted?
- Yes : See INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE , for diagnosis and testing of the throttle body.
- No : REFER to SPEED CONTROL .
