Lower Intake Manifold: Installation

  1. Using metal surface cleaner, clean all the sealing surfaces.

    NOTE: If the lower intake manifold is not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
  3. Apply silicone gasket and sealant at the 4 cylinder block-to-cylinder head seams.

  5. Install the lower intake manifold gaskets and end seals.
    • Position the intake manifold gaskets.
    • Position the intake manifold end seals.
  6. Install the intake manifold. Tighten the 8 bolts in 2 stages in the sequence shown.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft).

  8. Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
  9. Connect the engine ECT sensor electrical connector.
  10. Connect the upper radiator, degas bottle and heater hoses.
  11. Connect the 6 fuel injector electrical connectors.
  12. Connect the FRP sensor electrical connector.
  13. Install the push rods. For additional information, refer to Valve Train Components - Exploded View, Rocker Arm, Push Rod, Valve Seals and Hydraulic Lash Adjuster  and Push Rod .
  14. Connect the fuel tube spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL TANK AND LINES article.
  15. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
