Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR

Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the engine plug bolt.







4. Install the special tool and turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to position the No. 1 cylinder at top dead center (TDC).







5. Remove the 2 bolts and the CKP sensor.
6. Install an M6 bolt in the position shown.







Installation

1. NOTE: Whenever the CKP sensor is removed, a new one must be installed using the alignment tool supplied with the new part.

Position the CKP sensor and loosely install the 2 bolts.

2. NOTE: The CKP sensor alignment tool is supplied with the new sensor and is not available separately.

Adjust the CKP sensor with the alignment tool and tighten the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).







3. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
4. Remove the M6 bolt.







5. Remove the special tool.







6. Install the engine plug bolt.
- Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
