Condition Possible Sources Action
  • No communication with the ABS module
  • Fuse(s)
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • ABS module
  • The red brake warning indicator and the yellow ABS warning indicator are always on
  • DTCs present in the ABS module
  • The red brake warning indicator always/never on
  • Brake fluid level low and/or brake fluid leaks
  • Brake fluid level switch
  • Parking brake switch
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Smart junction box (SJB)
  • Spongy brake pedal with no warning indicator
  • Air in the brake hydraulic system
 
  • Damaged or incorrectly installed brake components
  • INSPECT the brake pedal, brake booster and master cylinder for correct installation. REFER to HYDRAULIC BRAKE ACTUATION article for the brake pedal and master cylinder. REFER to POWER BRAKE ACTUATION article for the brake booster. CORRECT the installation or INSTALL new as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • Poor vehicle tracking during anti-lock function
  • Air in the hydraulic brake system
