Symptom Chart - External Controls, Column Shift

SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) system does not release/lock correctly
  • Circuitry
  • Fuse(s):
    • Smart Junction Box (SJB) 5 (10A)
    • Battery Junction Box (BJB) 43 (15A)
  • BSIA 
  • Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch
  • The shift control is out of correct gear relationship
  • Selector lever cable and bracket
  • Selector lever indicator
  • Shift control linkage
  • Transmission Range (TR) indicator does not correspond to the gear
  • Selector lever cable bracket
  • TIGHTEN bolts holding the selector lever cable bracket.
  • PRNDL malfunction
  • Selector lever cable loose in the transmission retainer bracket
  • VERIFY cable is fully seated in the transmission bracket.
  • Shift linkage
  • Clip securing the selector lever cable to the steering column bracket
  • INSTALL clip correctly.
  • TR  indicator lamp does not illuminate
  • PRNDL
  • Circuitry
  • The Transmission Control Switch (TCS) does not operate correctly
  • TCS 
  • TCS  not cycled during self-test

  • ADJUST cable. TIGHTEN cable bracket screws.
  • Selector lever will not shift
