Test Procedure

  1. TU1 KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) AND CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P1145: VERIFY THE CONCERN IS PRESENT
NOTE: Clearing the transaxle control module (TCM) DTCs will erase any TCM recorded freeze frame data. Make sure to record any TCM freeze frame information before proceeding any further. Refer to the scan tool instruction manual for freeze frame PID menu.
    • Clear and retrieve TCM continuous DTCs.

    Is DTC P1145 present?

    Yes No
GO to  TU2. GO to  TU6.
  2. TU2 CHECK THE FRZ_DTC PID FOR A DTC DETAIL NUMBER
NOTE: The FRZ_DTC PID is a freeze frame PID.
    • Access the TCM and monitor the FRZ_DTC (MODE) PID.

Does the FRZ_DTC PID indicate freeze detail number 41, 42, 61, 62 or 178 present?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new transaxle assembly. REFER to the ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) GO to  TU3.
  3. TU3 CHECK THE TCM TOTAL TORQUE DESIRED PID VALUE IN REVERSE
NOTE: Do not apply the brake pedal when recording the PID value because it may produce false readings.
NOTE: Refer to the scan tool instruction manual for information on the recorder function.
    • Ignition ON, engine running.
    • Gear selector in REVERSE position.
    • Access the TCM and monitor the TQ_DSD (TORQUE) PID.
    • Record the PID value when driving the vehicle in REVERSE.

    Is the torque between -4,000 - 0 Nm (-2,950.2 - 0 lb ft)?

    Yes No
GO to  TU4. GO to  TU11.
  4. TU4 CHECK THE TCM TOTAL TORQUE DESIRED PID VALUE IN DRIVE
NOTE: Do not apply the brake pedal during this test because it may produce false readings.
NOTE: Refer to the scan tool instruction manual for information on the recorder function.
    • Gear selector in DRIVE position.
    • Access the TCM and monitor the TQ_DSD (TORQUE) PID.
    • Record the PID value when driving the vehicle in DRIVE.

    Is the torque between 0 - 4,000 Nm (0 - 2,950.2 lb ft)?

    Yes No
GO to  TU5. GO to  TU11.
  5. TU5 CHECK THE TCM TOTAL TORQUE DESIRED PID VALUE IN LOW
NOTE: Do not apply the brake pedal during this test because it may produce false readings.
NOTE: Refer to the scan tool instruction manual for information on the recorder function.
    • Gear selector in LOW position.
    • Access the TCM and monitor the TQ_DSD (TORQUE) PID.
    • Record the PID value when driving the vehicle in LOW.

    Is the torque between 0 - 4,000 Nm (0 - 2,950.2 lb ft)?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new transaxle assembly. REFER to the ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) GO to  TU11.
  6. TU6 CHECK THE FRZ_DTC PID FOR A DTC DETAIL NUMBER

REFER to the ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) GO to  TU7.
  7. TU7 RECREATE THE SYMPTOM USING ALL AVAILABLE DATA
NOTE: The vehicle may need to be driven in order to recreate the original conditions that set the DTC or caused the symptom.
    • Access the freeze frame data (if available) and record the DTC malfunction conditions.
    • Clear the TCM DTCs.
    • Obtain information from the customer information worksheet or any other available data from the customer.
    • Access the TCM and monitor the TQ_DSD (TORQUE) PID.
    • Recreate the symptom using freeze frame and customer information.
    • When the symptom occurs, press the trigger to begin recording. Refer to the scan tool instruction manual for information on the recorder function.

    Could the symptom be recreated?

    Yes No
GO to  TU8. GO to PINPOINT TEST Z .
  8. TU8 CHECK THE TCM TOTAL TORQUE DESIRED PID VALUE IN REVERSE
NOTE: Use the data recorded in the Pinpoint Test Step TU7.

    Does the TCM TQ_DSD PID display between -4,000 - 0 Nm (-2,950 - 0 lb-ft) when the symptom occurs?

    Yes No
GO to  TU9. GO to  TU11.
  9. TU9 CHECK THE TCM TOTAL TORQUE DESIRED PID VALUE IN DRIVE
NOTE: Use the data recorded in the Pinpoint Test Step TU7.

    Does the TCM TQ_DSD PID display between 0 - 4,000 Nm (0 - 2,950 lb-ft) when the symptom occurs?

    Yes No
GO to  TU10. GO to  TU11.
  10. TU10 CHECK THE TCM TOTAL TORQUE DESIRED PID VALUE IN LOW
NOTE: Use the data recorded in the Pinpoint Test Step TU7.

    Does the TCM TQ_DSD PID display between 0 - 4,000 Nm (0 - 2,950 lb-ft) when the symptom occurs?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new transaxle assembly. REFER to the ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) GO to  TU11.
  11. TU11 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
    • Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
    • Visually inspect for:
      • pushed out pins
      • corrosion
    • Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Carry out the PCM self-test.
    • Verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new PCM.
REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) .
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
