Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK POWER ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BCM POWER FUSE
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Measure:
      BCM Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts on both sides of the fuse? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: VERIFY the fuse 18 (10A) is OK. If OK, GO to  12  . If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. CHECK THE BCM GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280D.
    2. Measure:
      BCM Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit.
  3. CHECK THE HS-CAN  TERMINATION RESISTANCE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    3. Disconnect the scan tool cable from the DLC.
    4. Measure:

    Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: GO to  6  .
  4. CHECK THE MS-CAN  TERMINATION RESISTANCE
    1. Measure:

    Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to  12  .

  5. CHECK THE MS-CAN  TERMINATION RESISTANCE WITH THE HVAC MODULE DISCONNECTED
    1. Disconnect: HVAC module C228A.
    2. Measure:

    Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms? 

    1. Yes: REFER to Diagnostic Routine J: The Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool .
    2. No: GO to .
  6. CHECK THE MS-CAN  CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE BCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
    2. Measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit in question in question.
  7. CHECK THE MS-CAN  CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER
    1. Connect: BCM C2280B.
    2. Ignition ON.
    3. Measure:
      DLC Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 3 volts on either circuit? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit in question in question.
  8. CHECK THE MS-CAN  CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    3. Measure:

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit in question in question.
  9. CHECK THE HS-CAN  CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE BCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280F.
    2. Measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to 10  .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit in question.
  10. CHECK THE HS-CAN  CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER
    1. Connect: BCM C2280F.
    2. Ignition ON.
    3. Measure:
      DLC Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 3 volts on either circuit? 

    1. Yes: REPAIR the circuit in question.
    2. No: GO to 11  .
  11. CHECK THE HS-CAN  CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    2. Measure:

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to 12  .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit in question.
  12. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect the BCM connector.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the BCM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    5. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM:

      REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) , or

      REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .

    2. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
