Universal Transmitter Programming (Fixed Code) - Late Build (Lear Car2U®): Notes
WARNING:
To avoid the risk of serious injury from the door closing, make sure that people and objects are clear of the garage door opener or security device that is being programmed. When programming a garage door, it is advised to park outside of the garage.
NOTE:
Do not use the Lear Car2U® System with any garage door opener that does not have a "stop and reverse" feature. This includes any garage door opener model manufactured before April 1, 1982.
NOTE:
Read the instructions completely before attempting to program the Lear Car2U® System. Because of the steps involved, it may be helpful to have an assistant when programming the universal transmitter.
NOTE:
Make sure to keep the original remote control transmitter for use in other vehicles as well as for future Lear Car2U® System programming. It is only needed for fixed code device programming.
NOTE:
This procedure is for fixed code devices. In order to determine if you have a fixed code or a rolling code device, open the garage door opener transmitter and if there is a panel of coded dip switches present, the device is a fixed code device. If there are no coded dip switches present, the device is a rolling code device. If so, refer to the Training a Garage Door Opener Equipped With "Rolling Codes" - Late Build procedure.
NOTE:
In order to program a fixed code device, paper and a pen or pencil is necessary.
- Open the battery cover of the universal transmitter and record the dip switch settings from left to right for all 8 to 12 switches. For additional information, refer to Specifications .
- Turn the ignition to the ON position.
- To input these positions into the Lear Car2U® System, at the same time, press all 3 Lear Car2U® System buttons for a few seconds and then release to put the device into the programming mode. The 3 red indicator lights blink slowly. Within 2.5 minutes, enter the corresponding dip switch settings from left to right (starting with number 1) into the Lear Car2U® System by pressing and releasing the buttons corresponding to the settings you circled.
- For example, if the dip switch settings were 1 (Left), 2 (Middle), 3 (Middle), 4 (Right), etc., press and release the left Lear Car2U® System button, then the middle button, then the middle button, then the right button, etc.
- After inputting the dip switch settings, at the same time, press and release all 3 Lear Car2U® System buttons. The 3 red indicator lights are turned on continuously.
- Press and hold the Lear Car2U® System button you would like to use to control the garage door.
- Once the garage door starts to move, within one second, release the button. During this time, the selected button indicator light blinks slowly. Do not release the button until the garage door moves, which may take anywhere from 5-55 seconds, depending on the make/model of the garage door opener.
- The 3 red indicator lights begin to blink rapidly until programming is complete. If the garage door opener does not operate, repeat Steps 1-6.
- For technical assistance, refer to the Owner's Literature.
- After successful programming, the Lear Car2U® System operates the garage door opener using the button that was programmed. The red indicator light in front of the programmed button turns on to confirm the Lear Car2U® System is responding (and is programmed) to the button command.
NOTE:
When a switch is in the Up, +, or On position, circle "Left". When a switch is in the Middle, 0 or Neutral position, circle "Middle". When a switch is in the Down, -, or Off position, circle "Right".
