Fuel System Pressure Release
-
WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this information, refer to SAFETY WARNINGS in SERVICE INFORMATION . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
Remove the RR door scuff plate trim panel. Section 501-05.
- Disconnect the FPCM electrical connector.
-
NOTE: On vehicles equipped with GTDI, the High Pressure Pump is a positive displacement pump and keeps the high pressure side independent from the low pressure side. If a service procedure is performed on the high pressure side, only the high pressure side needs pressure removed. If a service procedure is needed on the low pressure side, only the low pressure side needs the pressure removed. Running the engine with the FPCM disconnected will remove most of the pressure from both sides of the system.
Start the engine and allow it to idle until the engine stalls.
- Crank the engine for approximately five seconds to make sure that the fuel rail pressure is released.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- When the fuel system service is complete, reconnect the FPCM electrical connector.
-
NOTE: Carry out a Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) visual inspection for leaks prior to starting the engine.
Start the vehicle and check the fuel system for leaks.
